Coronaviruses are types of viruses that typically affect the respiratory tract of mammals including humans. They are associated with the common cold, pneumonia, Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) and can also affect the gut. A coronavirus is a kind of common virus that causes an infection in the nose, sinuses or upper throat.

Human coronaviruses (HCoV) were first identified in the 1960s in the noses of patients with the common cold. Human coronaviruses are responsible for a large proportion of common colds-1.OC43 2.229E.They get their name because of crown-like projections on their surfaces. Corona in Latin means ‘halo’ or ‘crown’. This infection in humans occurs during winters and early spring. Coronavirus antibodies do not last long and the antibodies for one strain of virus may be useless against other strains.

These were first identified in the 1960s but their actual place of origin is not known. Coronaviruses can infect both humans and animals. Most of them spread like other cold-causing viruses through the coughing and sneezing of other infected people, by touching an infected person’s hand or face or by touching surfaces like furniture or doorknobs that have been touched by infected people Most people get a coronavirus infection once in a lifetime, most likely during childhood. These are most common in U.S during fall and winters.

Prevention from Coronavirus

  1. There is no cure for the common cold.
  2. A coronavirus causes both SARS and MERS.
  3. Coronaviruses infect many different species.
  4. There are 7 known human coronaviruses.
  5. SARS spread from China and caused infection in 37 countries killing people.

Why You Should Keep A Check On Your Nutrition For Immunity Defence

These symptoms are similar to an upper respiratory infection like sneezing, runny nose, fatigue, coughing, sore throat, or a fever, exacerbated asthma too. It is unidentifiable from other cold-causing viruses like Rhinovirus. If this infection spreads to the lower respiratory tract (windpipe and lungs)it can cause pneumonia, especially in older people, people with heart disease, or people with a weakened immune system. Human coronaviruses cannot be cultivated in the laboratory easily, unlike the Rhinovirus, another cause of the common cold.

Precautions from Coronavirus

There is no vaccine available for it. Its prevention is similar to that of a common cold. Some of them are—

1. Wash hands thoroughly with soap and warm water or with an alcohol-based hand sanitizer.

  1. Keep your hands and fingers away from your eyes, nose, and throat.
  2. Avoid close contact with infected people.
  3. Get lots of rest and avoid overexertion.
  4. Drink fluids mainly water.
  5. Take over-the-counter medicine for a sore throat and fever. Aspirin must not be given to children or teens younger than 19 instead of Ibuprofen or Acetaminophen or Naproxen should be given.
  6. A humidifier, steamy shower,  or cool mist vaporizer can also help ease a sore throat.
  7. Avoidance of smoking or going into smoky areas.

The responsible virus can be diagnosed by taking a sample of respiratory fluids like mucus from the nose or blood.

There are currently 7 recognized types of coronaviruses that can infect humans. Common types include—-

  1. 229E (Alpha coronavirus)
  2. NL63 (Alpha coronavirus)
  3. HKU1 (Beta coronavirus)
  4. OC43 (Beta coronavirus)

Some rarer, more dangerous types include—MERS-CoV which causes Middle East Respiratory Syndrome and Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS-CoV), the coronavirus responsible for SARS.

Facts on Covid 19

There has not been a great deal of research on how a coronavirus spreads from one person to next. But it is believed that the viruses transmit using secreted fluid from the respiratory system. Coronaviruses can spread in the following ways—

  1. Coughing and sneezing without covering the mouth can disperse droplets in the air, spreading the virus.
  2. Touching or shaking hands with an infected person can spread it thus.
  3. Making contact with an infected surface and then touching your nose, eyes, or mouth.
  4. On rarer occasions, a coronavirus may spread through contact with feces.

Bottled water and the filtered water from the pipeline are two main sources to get drinking water. With so many impurities in ground level and many other factors resulting in added impurities, its evident to choose one. Everyone knows impure water can affect your immune system and apparently various health parameters. Water is a necessity, and a change in composition in terms of minerals or other chemicals sometimes might turn havoc, causing skin or health issues. There is no life without water, but water should be clean which can be used for drinking. Wherever you‘re, in the home or in the office we cannot compromise when it comes to clean drinking water. So, in order to keep our health intact and to avoid any emergency either the task we do is by comparing direct pipe and bottled water dispenser before we make a final decision!

There are various benefits when you fix a filter to a permanent pipeline.

First, it is cost-effective and you can use as much water without worrying about the cost per litre.

Raw water directly flows through the filtration process, eliminates bacteria and comes out as fresh as compared to bottled water.

Its hassle-free. Once you fix the filter, you can use it unlimited.

Have lesser carbon footprints in terms of storage.

More convenient for the user with limited maintenance.

And, cost-effective in the longer run.

While the Bottled water has its own Pros and cons:

Can be placed anywhere irrespective of a fixed pipeline.

Don’t need maintenance like a replacement of filters etc.

Though these are costlier for homes and office use mobility makes it more suitable. This is the reason why Office water dispensers are almost maintenance-free. Also, other than mobility and cost pipe water with a dispenser is always recommended over bottled water. Freshness, taste, and the authenticity that you drink as what you see make it more promising than anything else. But again, the choice is always on the user!

Procrastination’s always makes for last minute plans, which puts strain on our pockets. Planning well ahead in advance, saves us from a lot of unnecessary expenses, and even leaves scope for savings on great deals.

Availability as per our own comfort and convenience can’t be explored due to unavailability. It’s not unfortunate but can be taken in way to explore the unexplored. You might have to compromise on the luxury, you are habituated of, but you will get an altogether unique experience of traveling at odd times and that too in a budget.

You might get lucky, of travelling in absolute peace, which otherwise would have attracted huge crowd.

Get the job done through travel agent

Delegate as much as work as you can. Look for a travel agent, to get things for you sorted. Use the resource, to get things done without you spending your already busy time on those stuffs.

They are best in their job and will get you the best deals, without you scratching your head. You might even end up getting important connections, for your travel destination.

Go for combo deals – Combo offers for both airfare/trainfare and hotel accommodations, makes for miraculous deals, while booking at the final moment.

The prices are relatively cheaper, saving a lot of hassle too, which is no less than a gift. When already late for packing, these offers will get you out of the tussle in managing time efficiently and smartly.

Remain open to destinations: The freedom to choose destination of your choice might not be applicable at the last moment for you, but would definitely give a chance to travel the path less chosen.

Look for the off-beat places and set the tone for exploring the unknown. It will take you to places, which you thought never existed.

It will teach you to be flexible enough and give you learnings which are somewhere or the other connected with you individually.

Get in touch with hotels directly – Online options may not give you the flexibility of timings, if you happen to reach at odd times. Contacting hotels directly, will open up opportunities. Speaking in person by dialling up on hotel numbers, might crack even better deals.

Make best use of the stuffs, at your hotel room – Hotel food is costly, for which you will have to shell out lot of bucks. You can try making good use of the hot bottle kettle and toaster from the hotel room. You will get to have a quick snack and tea or coffee, or even can boil eggs. This will come handy for quick fixes, when hungry at uneven hours.

Borrow stuff from hotel, which are not chargeable– To your sweet surprise, not many people are aware that you are free to borrow stuffs from hotel, which are not chargeable. Most of the stuffs lie idle, which can be utilized and there is no shame in asking for the same.

Ask for the last room in the hotel floor – It will turn out to be a great idea, to request for the corner room in the hotel. They usually come with larger areas, and better views. It is not considered an upgrade and will not require you to pay for that additionally.

Interview with Mr. Rakesh Kumar, Chairman, India Exposition Mart Limited(IEML).

‘AyurYog Expo will be the Mahakumbh of Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy’

India Exposition Mart Limited is all set to host AyurYog Expo- A World Assembly on Ayurveda, Yoga, and Naturopathy from November 7-10, 2019. I had a detailed discussion about the vision and aim of the Expo with Mr.Rakesh Kumar, Chairman, India Exposition Mart Limited (IEML) and Director General, Export Promotion Council for Handicrafts

Ayuryog Expo

What was your vision while conceptualizing AyurYog Expo- A World Assembly on Ayurveda, Yoga, and Naturopathy?

Few months back during a session on ‘Wellness & Tourism’ in India International Hospitality Expo we realized that the segment of ‘Wellness’ needs to be promoted. Audiences had the same queries which were once thrown at us— What, Where and How. Youngsters in the audience wanted to know how things are done, how the product is procured and many others. As a matter, the industry captains could not answer most of the questions. The void was clearly visible.

I sensed the opportunity and met Dr.HR Nagendra, Chancellor, S-VYASA. He endorsed our idea. There is already lot of movement in the sector of alternative medicine all over the world, but if you look at the statistics, America is way ahead of India when it comes to the salability of ayurvedic products.

Hence came the idea of ‘AyurYog Expo- A World Assembly on Ayurveda, Yoga, and Naturopathy’, which is being organized from November 7-10, 2019, India Exposition Mart, Greater Noida.  The expo is shaped by the industry as the need of the industry and need of the hour.

Can AYUSH industry have similar expectations from AyurYog Expo?

The AYUSH industry lacks commercialization. At AyurYog Expo we will offer every kind of opportunity to the consumer, exhibitor, industry stakeholders, AYUSH experts and everyone related to the industry.  Every aspect for individual stakeholders—knowledge bank through seminars, conferences, and sessions will be touched and unveiled. The Expo will see Public Demonstration with public meetings where big wigs will interact with people, networking meetings will take place where new players and big players can connect, knowledge conclave, investors’ summit and healthy living expo will be held. It will be the launching platform for the industry.

Will AyurYog Expo bridge the gap between Industry and Consumers?

This is our primary goal. AyurYog Expo will project the industry of Ayurveda, Yoga, and Naturopathy in a way that people will feel motivated to come forward and connect. It will be an open space that will allow people to understand science better. There would be ayurvedic products and medicines of all brands that would be accessible for all.

Let’s understand the dynamics of the industry. Ayurvedic products are already in use, people purchase them and have been using them and since the inclination has enhanced, the market size has also increased, but the problem is that the demand is limited to merely 3-4 brands. But the gap in the market size of even these brands will come as a surprise to you. In two of these brands, the gap is of 10,000 crores and 800 crores. The gap is huge and we need to fill this gap. AyurYog Expo will bring in small and big players into the picture who will have a direct interface with the industry and will be able to enhance the visibility of their product.

The advertisement cost is so high in the country that maximum players in the industry have not been able to promote themselves worldwide even if their product s good, which has created a void. We will not only bring a lot of distributors but will bring a lot of new players. This will, in fact, create a lot of employment avenues. I am sure the AYUSH ministry will take our mission to another level.

When you and Dr. H R Nagendra have come together to organize AyurYog Expo it is ought to be an amalgamation of Knowledge and Trade Expo. What else is in the kitty?

India Expo Center and Mart are known as the state-of-the-art exhibition center where major conferences, events, Auto Expo, Asian Development Bank Expo, Printpack, FDI World Dental Congress and many other events are organized. Dignitaries from all over the world would participate. It is about management. We will be organizing quality events, which will have longer connectivity with people. Those who are associated with stakeholders should come forward, and stakeholders who are in the expo and even the masses should be connected with the program. The knowledge bank, networking, and connectivity will come from the side of Guruji. The amalgamation of these two knowledge banks will definitely bring something on the platter for the people.

How is AyurYog Expo different from other Expos?

There are two ways of remembering an event or people who are at the back of an organization. First, how huge it is. For example We all often visit Haridwar and take dips in Holy Ganges, but it is ‘Kumbh’ that makes an impression in our memory for being the largest and the most organized congregation of people from all over the world.

AyurYog Expo will be the Mahakumbh of Ayurveda, Yoga, and Naturopathy. People would recall it as the most organized and most thoughtful event, which will be the mother of all events.

Light Up Your Home In Style

Home is, where your heart is!

We spent a significant amount of time at home. The interiors, lighting, color patterns and the choice of home decor has the power to create a deep impact on our mood.

The choice of interiors majorly depends on an individual’s personal liking. And lighting is one important factor, which enhances and sets the mood of its inhabitants. As a homeowner, it is vital to keep in mind the lighting types, while planning the interiors.

Lighting should be chosen to make the environment calm and serene. The moment one steps inside the home, the decor and brightness of our home should create a perfect ambiance for pleasant moments.

Here’s a quick guide on how to choose lightings, to enhance the beauty of the home.

Four common types of lighting that can be used to brighten up the atmosphere with a zing.

Ambient Lighting

When it comes to the selection of artificial lighting, each room and space will demand a different pattern for itself. Different light creates a different aura, depending upon what our expectations are.

The living room is a place where we welcome our guests. To create warmth and vibrant energy, the lighting needs to be bright and at the same time relaxing too.

Dining space is a bonding time for the family members over food. In addition to the spotlight, relaxing light is what one should aim, to maintain the relaxing atmosphere essential for family bonding type.

A bedroom is a place one is in a mood to calm oneself after a much tiring day. The choice of lights does the magic in infusing the right spirit, which one longs for.

With the right selection of lighting, one can create the right ambiance for each room.

General Lighting

General Lighting

During the daytime, the rooms should be filled with optimum natural light without switching on the artificial ones. But it can’t be avoided during the evenings.

There should be good general artificial lighting for every room. It should be placed in such a way to maintain uniformity all over the place. No area should be left, without lights. These lightings are done to make a style statement, in the interiors of a home.

Spot Lighting

Spot Lighting

Spotlights are usually meant for study table, reading chairs, dining room, etc. Apart from the space fixed in light, the rest of the space is in shadow. These are supplementary lighting, meant to highlight a specific space or to keep the focus on the desired object. It is installed to make a stylish statement in the interiors of the home.

Decorative Lights

Decorative Lighting

The best part of these kinds of lights is to make the place shine. As the name suggests, decorative lightings are basically used to decorate the space with its presence, than to illuminate. The beauty of the light is to imbibe the charm and magical essence to the room. It can be used to create patterns on walls through it.

Indirect Lighting

Direct and Indirect Lighting

Direct Lighting– The whole room is directly illuminated with light focussing downwards.

Indirect Lighting– Spreading on walls to illuminate the space, indirect lighting is pointed downwards or upwards for the shadow effect. Depending on your choice luminous flux is directed downwards or upwards at your desired angle.

How to choose the right lamp to suit your home?

It is vital to keep in mind the important characteristics while buying the lamps for home. For the proper illumination of the interior of a home, choosing the right lamp is of prime importance.

Energy efficiency and energy consumption.

Economical in installing.

Desired lighting effects.

Chromatic- The color of light.

Easy maintenance of the lighting equipment to be used.

Its impact on installation.

Space it will be illuminating.

The kind of impact it will create when installed.

Natural Lighting

Natural Lighting

Do not forget to make way for natural lighting in the home. Natural sunshine has many health benefits alongside illuminating the room with greater shine and warmth. Embrace it with open arms and utilize it to your full benefit as natural lighting is harder to find in today’s high rise and compact structured apartments. Natural light infuses the soul with enthusiasm and vitality, making the living space more of a lively place. It’s an aesthetic way of bringing natural light to the home.

“Your Turn Now” – A New Name For The Act Of Kindness

While scrolling through my Facebook feed, the name ‘Rushabh Turakhia’ flashed in the column of “People you may know”. Though the name seemed familiar, I was not acquainted with him, and usually, I connect online to people only after some conversation. However, as the touch screen phone would have it while scrolling up, my fingers touched the ‘Add friend’ button against his name accidentally (which I did not realize at that point). A few hours later, there arrived a message in the messenger app of my phone from the very same person!

“Do we know each other?” he asked.

“Sorry, I could not recollect. Where have we met?” he continued.

I struggled to recollect any instances of interacting with or meeting the person. Failing to reminisce anything about him, I chose not to respond to the message.

The very next day, (which was special as it was Father’s day) a dear friend’s WhatsApp message popped up. Anupama Dalmia, the renowned Blogger, and Influencer shared her article, published on Women’s Web about an inspiring Father-Son Duo and the movement (Your Turn Now) they are heading.

Your Turn Now

The article kept me glued till the end (it’s a known fact that all of Anupama’s articles are soul-touching), it clicked to me instantly that this was about the same person who had messaged me the previous day on Facebook Messenger. It was then I realized he is a very well known philanthropist. I instantly searched for the name ‘Rushabh Turakhia’ on Facebook and checked his profile.

I noticed that I had sent a friend request to him, unknowingly. I apprehended the reason behind his message. I googled for his name to mine further and unearthed several posts and articles about the man and is hugely inspirational “Your Turn Now” movement. I learned about how he had turned something simple and basic into a mass movement with sheer grit and determination.

Your Turn Now-

“A movement to remind us about how crucial it is to practice kindness in our daily lives” was set in motion by Rushabh Turakia, an MBA by qualification and a diamond merchant by profession. The concept of Your Turn Now took roots way back in 2000 because of the movie, “Pay It Forward” released in the year 2000, starring Kevin Spacey, Helen Hunt, Haley Joel Osment which deeply impacted Rushabh. He took it upon himself to spread the message of kindness in the world and that is when YTN took shape in 2009.

Rushabh’s motive of making a difference in the society got boosted when to his pleasant surprise  25k cards got distributed within a year. It has been ten years ever since and millions of YTN cards have been circulated on the planet in over 45 countries and 10 major International Languages, taking a life of its own, as proudly acknowledged by Rushabh himself.

Many people got themselves associated with Rushabh on this mission out of their belief in the mission. It’s touchy to know the person who designed the card and his website didn’t charge a single penny from Rushabh, further fuelling the desire to move ahead. It’s that simple, trust me. Rushabh wants us to spread his message by being kind to others, passing on the YTN cards further urging them to ripple it further in the societal canvas.

Your Turn Now

It’s interesting to know that Rushabh’s  14yr old son equally participates in his mission and he was the one to give the best opinion in shaping up the movement of “Your Turn Now”. Rushabh has authored two Your Turn Books till date and proudly mentions that his son Vivaan hosted the book launch of both the editions of books. Vivaan has been an integral part of Rushabh’s philanthropic work to make a difference to society.

We parents are entrusted with the key role of raising an empathetic and kind human being who will turn out to become a compassionate person later in life. Rushabh is a proud father and shares a great rapport with his son. In today’s world where generosity, selflessness are eroding, Rushabh is paving way for his son by practicing it himself, as children learn more by observing their parents.

What a better way than this to inculcate the basics right in the child! Rushabh strikes the right balance as a parent by sharing a close bond with his son yet giving him space as he would give to any individual.

Your Turn Now

I now believe, at times mistake lands you to places or with people, you would love to associate with. I consider myself, fortunate to get in touch with the man himself, who is on a fabulous mission, keeping the belief intact amongst the crowd, in “Paying It Forward”. When enquired about his future prospects, Rushabh gladly stated: “he is working on creating inspiring short films and videos on kindness”. I can guarantee, this step is going to be beneficial in augmenting the movement.

We need more such folks coming to the forefront and taking matters in their hands on such levels. The world needs it. “Your Turn Now”, needs more hands. Let’s pledge to lend yours, and make the world a better place. I support the movement with all my heart and soul.

In this times of pandemic, it is our moral responsibility to stand up and offer the required help to the ones who are in need. As a single individual, it is not practical to do it everything by yourself, so joining hands with the “Your Turn Now” volunteers will pave the way towards looking after your fellow humans.

The current time of pandemic has made us all shut in our homes for unprecedented times. Let us make a pledge to ourselves to be there for our loved ones and also for those who we can lend our hands to.

Find out why “Your Body is your Real Life Partner”

To remain healthy and lead a good life, we need to keep a balance between our mind and body. When health fails, it overshadows everything else. Our body’s overall health and wellness depend on eating a balanced diet, getting enough sleep, and exercising. Now we should be more focused and dedicated to fighting the ongoing pandemic as much as possible by boosting our immune system.

But how much focused are we towards our body, in the truest sense?

Few would say, in complete control. Others might not consider the topic, to be worthy of giving attention. While some are aware of the health hazards upon negligence and are eager to go for healthy choices, but need someone to steer them in the right direction. Few would fall in the list of “happy go lucky” category when it comes to their choices of considering healthy food options.

But the fact is, the more dedicated we are towards our body, the more our Body will care for us. It’s our duty and responsibility to put the best foot forward, in impressing our partner, by opting for the best nutrition plan.

Making The Right Choices Matters A Lot

Staying healthy is not a choice. It’s our duty. And we all must follow it religiously. In the list of our priorities, Health should come first. Not by force, but by Will. It’s our responsibility, which no one else can share it. We spend so much time, money, and energy on superficial and material aspects of life. With immense discipline and inclination, we all are up to chase the “ideal worldly standards”. If we only consider giving one-fourth of dedication and aim to fulfil the demands of our body, the battle will be won. It’s a Guarantee.

Taking care of our bodies is the most important thing we should do to empower our life. Loving or ignoring it will determine the experience and quality of life. In other respects, it will be like, being in the company of someone you do not approve of.

The more we take care of it, the more it responds to us in a positive manner. The way we eat, the way we deal with stress, how much time we spend resting, how much we focus on exercising, keeping ourselves in the good company of folks who are giving us positive vibes, and cheering us.

Three Key Areas To Look After Your Body

Eating well, getting enough sleep, and exercise are the three key elements that you should look at while taking care of your body.

Diet and Nutrition

It’s a cliche “You’re what you eat”. It is a fact we all are aware of. Our body absorbs nutrients more efficiently when it comes from whole food sources like grains, pulses, fresh fruits, and green leafy vegetables. It is important to keep a healthy mix of food and nutrients, rather than processed foods and supplements. The more the plate is colorful, the more it is healthy. Some simple changes in the diet has the ability to make big differences in your life. It increases your energy levels, lifts your spirit, and reduces the likelihood of becoming ill. The best approach is to make sure that you get enough of each essential building block of diet and not too much of any.

Rest and Sleep

Sleep is needed so that your mind and body function in proper order. Lack of proper sleep can interfere in the functioning of the brain. Sleep disorders can pose immune disorders making it weaker. Sleep is just as important as food and exercise. Sleep is the key factor in our quality of life. It helps control our metabolism and weight, helps prevent cardiovascular diseases, increases knowledge retention, boosts our immune system, and helps us with long and short term memory.

Sleep is the time when the body is working hard to repair the damage caused by stress, ultraviolet rays, and other harmful exposure. Your cells produce more protein while you are sleeping. These protein molecules are the building block for cells, allowing them to repair the damage.

Exercise helps in keeping body fit

Being fit boosts our immune system and helps fight the infection. Exercise benefits many areas of body and life. Regular exercise increases your overall level of fitness. It gives you energy and increases your stamina. It also allows you to sleep better at night, which is important to maintaining an overall good mood. Working out increases your good cholesterol and decreases your risk of serious medical issues, especially those related to heart.

Give Yourself The Much Needed Attention

Life is an ECHO. What we give out, comes back to us. To have a successful relationship with ourselves, it’s very important how we look at ourselves and life. It is important to be equipped with good coping tools, to remain sane while performing our day to day activities. Once we master the art of taking good care of ourselves, all our worldly relationships will be happy and comfortable. When we are happier, we are better at being other relationships. Simply put, we will not need someone or something to make us feel complete and happy. We will then stay whole in any relationship, allowing that person to stay whole too. We are able to communicate, laugh, love, and grow together.

Ask yourself before looking for outward people, places, things to complete you. “Are they going to fuel me in feeling really good about and within myself”? If it doesn’t, it’s better to shun it, permanently. It is very important to learn to establish deep connections with yourself, your desires, and your passions. Surround yourself with people who can help you reflect, and maintain a positive outlook and approach.

Pay Heed to What You Focus On

Keep negative emotions out of your coverage zone. Pay attention to how you feel. If you feel bad or less whole, you will start seeking someone or something else to make you feel better, leading to poor food habit, choice of partner, or choice of words in an argument. Do whatever it takes to make you feel good. A walk, meditation, exercise, good friends, or whatever makes you happy.

Practice Gratitude. For whatever you have and who you are. The more you will be thankful, the more it is likely to look at circumstances and situations in a more positive way, rather than feeling bad or cursing. For the times when we do not find anything to be grateful for, here is an exercise:

Close your eyes and repeat “I am a miracle”.

Say it again.

Smile broader, Say it again.

Open your eyes and feel it.

Awaken your most confident self. Get into the path of loving yourself. Believe in your own abilities. Do what makes you feel lively, high spirited, and healthy in the most positive ways. For the very known reason, when we will feel good, we will radiate goodness. Everyone loves to be around with such people and we do not lose ourselves in relationships. Your real-life partner will love you in the most faithful way possible.
